GUNDI

The Universal Adaptor for Conservation Technologies

Conservation teams increasingly rely on data from many different tools—sensors, remote monitoring hardware, and field applications. The challenge is that these technologies are often developed independently, making it difficult and time-consuming to connect everything into a single, usable picture of what’s happening on the ground.

The Gundi Program exists to solve that interoperability gap. Built by and for the global conservation community, Gundi (a word meaning “glue” in Swahili) is a free, open-source data integration platform that seamlessly connects any sensor and any application—so conservationists and developers can spend less time on custom integrations and more time on impact.

What is the Gundi Program?

Gundi is a single integration point that transforms data into the format you need and automatically routes it to where it needs to go. Whether you’re a developer or a conservation practitioner, Gundi helps unlock data across tools by connecting devices, services, and conservation software into a more unified workflow.

Gundi is led through a first-of-its-kind collaboration between EarthRanger, Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), and Wildlife Protection Solutions (WPS). Together, the partnership’s mission is to simplify data exchange between technologies so conservation solutions can leverage data from a wide range of sources and empower teams to use the best tools for protecting wildlife and wild places.

Why AI-enabled intelligence matters

AI and advanced analytics can only deliver value when data flows reliably between the tools that collect it and the systems that analyze it. Gundi supports AI-enabled conservation workflows by making it easier to bring together multi-source data streams and send them onward for real-time analysis and decision-making—without rebuilding integrations every time a new sensor or application is introduced.

Gundi also enables richer insights by allowing data to pass through analyzers—including analyzers that use AI algorithms—to interpret and enrich incoming information before it reaches downstream applications. This helps teams move from raw signals to clearer, more actionable intelligence.

What Gundi helps teams do

Gundi is designed to streamline conservation technology ecosystems for both practitioners and developers, helping teams:

  • Connect sensors to multiple applications with a single integration for real-time analysis and decision-making

  • Mix and match tools without overhauling workflows—supporting true device and application independence

  • Reduce custom integration workload by replacing slow, manual workarounds with a common integration solution

  • Transform and route data automatically, acting as a universal adaptor between hardware and conservation software

  • Extend value from AI services and analytics by feeding data through AI-enabled analyzers for interpretation and enrichment

KEY capabilities

AI-enabled analysis and decision support

Gundi supports AI-ready pipelines by enabling sensor streams to be routed through analyzers (including those using AI algorithms) so raw data can be interpreted and enriched—helping teams and applications generate more meaningful outputs from the same field inputs.

Operational intelligence that supports real-world workflows

Gundi is built to reduce friction for both field teams and technical teams. It offers user-friendly setup so new data connections can be created and configured without coding, and it reduces the need for costly, repetitive integration projects.

Stronger coordination across teams and partners

With one integration, Gundi can send field data to multiple consuming applications—helping different teams work from the same underlying information and improving interoperability across conservation tool ecosystems.

Prevention-first conservation outcomes

By reducing the time it takes to unify siloed systems and enabling more real-time access to integrated data, Gundi helps teams move faster from information to action—supporting better decisions across complex landscapes and evolving threats.

Who the Gundi Program is for

Gundi is designed for a broad conservation technology community, including:

  • Protected area managers and conservation field teams who want to deploy sensors without worrying about complex hardware/software integrations

  • Wildlife researchers and monitoring teams seeking multi-source data access across their preferred tools

  • Hardware manufacturers and sensor providers looking to connect once and reach multiple conservation applications

  • Application developers, AI service providers, and platform teams who want to expand user access to diverse sensor streams without building countless custom integrations

Results that matter: seamless integrations, more time for conservation

Gundi helps conservation teams and technology developers reduce redundant integration work, accelerate interoperability, and unlock greater value from data—so limited time and resources can be focused on conservation outcomes instead of technical workarounds.

Get started with the Gundi Program

For users, Gundi is currently available in beta as a hosted service, with an early-access pathway that includes reviewing supported technologies and submitting an integration request.

For developers, Gundi is free to integrate with and is designed to connect your hardware, service AI, or application to leading conservation technology tools—saving development time while expanding your technology’s reach through the growing Gundi ecosystem.
